Wonderful Weekend Weather with Thunderstorms

Good Saturday bloggers,

We are in for some great weekend weather and a nearly 100% chance of rain and thunderstorms. The rain is timed for tonight, leaving the days with very nice weather.

SATURDAY: We will see increasing high clouds as highs reach 70°-75° along with a south breeze at 10-20 mph.  You can see rain to the southwest at 5 PM.

SATURDAY NIGHT: A round or two of rain and thunderstorms will begin 7-8 PM this evening and end 4-6 AM Sunday. There may be some small hail, but we are not expecting severe weather. If you are out this evening, keep an eye to the sky and be aware of rapidly changing weather conditions.

SEVERE WEATHER RISKS THIS WEEKEND: The best chance of severe weather today is in between Dallas, Memphis and Houston where an Enhanced Slight Risk is found. There is a marginal risk into central Kansas for the chance of some thunderstorms producing quarter sized hail.

The Sunday severe threat will be from the Gulf coast to Tennessee Valley and southern Midwest, clipping southeast Missouri.

RAINFALL FORECAST TONIGHT: There will be .25″ to .50″ in most locations. A few locations may see .10″, while others see .50″ to 1″. The location of the heavier totals depends on the track of thunderstorms. This map has the heaviest rain from Iola, to Pleasanton to Chillicothe. That is subject to change due to thunderstorm tracks.

SUNDAY: Wow! We may reach 80° along with abundant sunshine. So, get ready for an explosion of pollen as everything will be blooming and greening up rapidly. Now, it would not be a crazy pattern if we did not have a storm with a winter component during the same week we come close to 80°.

NEXT WEDNESDAY-THURSDAY: A strong storm system will cross the Plains and Midwest with a cold blast to follow. The trend has been for this storm to track farther north, so the accumulating snow will likely occur from around I-80 and points north. This storm may still shift south, so we need to watch it. Regardless of the storm track, it will be followed by a blast of cold and lows Friday may drop to the 20s. The intensity of the freeze will depend on how fast the clouds clear. If it stays cloudy we will have a light freeze with lows 30°-32°. If the sky clears, then lows could drop to the mid 20s.  We will have more on this in Sunday’s blog.

Have a great weekend.
