Weekend changes & forecast time-line

Good morning bloggers,

A 100% chance of rain is in the forecast for Sunday and we need a good soaking. Take a look at these numbers:

Last year was very wet in November, but so far it has continued to be dry this November. This may be about to change on Sunday as a cold front slices through some pretty good low level moisture surging north from the Gulf of Mexico. It is going to rain, but how much?  Right now I think there is a nearly 100% chance of at least .10″, with an inch or more still possible from this system. We will have in-depth weathercasts on 41 Action News tonight with our updated rainfall forecast.  The latest GFS and NAM models were wetter with the window of opportunity for precipitation opening up a bit more to around four to six hours of rain.  At the tail end of the precipitation there may be a few snowflakes.

Time-line:

  • Today:  Breezy and warmer with a high of 75°
  • Tonight:  A bit windy and mild with a low of 61°
  • Saturday:  Increasing clouds & windy, but most likely staying dry with a high near 75° again
  • Sunday:  A 100% chance of rain with a few thunderstorms likely in the area. Heavy rain is possible with temperatures crashing from the 60s into the 30s. There is a chance of some light snow at the end of the precipitation with no accumulation expected.

Thank you for spending a few minutes reading the Action Weather Blog. We will keep you updated over the weekend.

Gary

I’m liking the latest NAM, rain likely…….

    Andrew Luck……what a good QB

    Tush…

How’s our snow looking late next week? so-so…likely rain right?

    • sedsinkc

Latest NAM and GFS both looking much better for us rain-wise on Sunday. Give it a couple more runs to see if we get consistency on this.

Mike, do you think Matt Barkley of USC would make a good NFL QB that KC might want to consider drafting? I haven’t seen him play this year, but my brother-in-law who is quite football-savvy thinks he’ll make a good NFL QB.

Lets get some maps posted. And congratulations to Billy Butler for winning the Silver Slugger

I’ll be happy with a half inch!!! Come on RAIN!!!!

    Gary,

Is there a chance of severe weather overnight? The weather app on my phone says severe thunderstorms.

Also nice song choice on the Border Patrol this morning!!

    Gary,
Hunting season for deer opens this weekend in Missouri. Can you give us an idea of when to expect the rain and crashing temps?

  • Matt Barkley would be a terrible pick, name me 1 elite USC QB in the league,, ill wait.. sadly last year was the year to make a move, and the chiefs had the guns to do it. No worthy QB’s this year,, trade your pick for a boatload of picks, pick up a solid #2 qb next year, count next year as a loss, and see what you get in 2014

Carson Palmer. I’d settle for Matt Barkley if he turns into Palmer.

      • sedsinkc

I asked my brother-in-law if he thought Barkley was more like Palmer or Leinart and he said Palmer. Palmer was on his way to greatness with Cincy until his injury. We’ll just have to wait and see what happens the rest of this season, if KC will get the #1 pick, and then start speculating on what they’ll do with it.

And thats not a good arguement anyways. Same could be said of RG3 and Luck last year. Name one elite QB in the leage from Stanford or Baylor.

    • sedsinkc

John Elway played at Stanford, but that was 30 years ago. I can’t recall any starting NFL QB that played at Baylor before RGIII.

      • AllDay

True haha, wow. It’s just not a fair to assume since noone else from a school has done it that noone from that school and ever do it. We should just draft whoever is playing at Purdue these days following that logic. QB U

My token weather comment: I hope we get a slow rain that lasts for hours.

The Chiefs need a sure thing (or as close as that’s possible in the NFL), not a ‘I hope he turns out, cause he’s not great now’ pick. It just really stinks that there aren’t too many quality QBs to choose from this year!

Cool story guys… How about the weather though? I’m also a hunter and would appreciate a timeline if you could Gary?

Snow showing back up, probably not going to amount to anything according to Gary

Latest NAM has interesting trends for Sunday afternoon into evening, as I read it there could be some wet snow here. NAM gives much of eastern Kansas and most of Missouri at least 3/4 of an inch of rain/precip from the storm. Rain looks to start in KC around 6 a.m. Sunday and go all day until perhaps turning to some snow in late afternoon. GFS not out yet.

    • sedsinkc

The configuration of the upper level trough in the NAM has changed to where it almost has negative tilt in our area and south from here. The trough is not so stretched out and positively tilted as it was in the models a day or two ago. There are more like two distinct pieces of energy within the trough, and the southern piece will track just south of us which may put us in something of a weak comma head of precip late Sunday. But GFS not out yet, so must wait to see what it thinks before putting snow goggles on.

  • f00dl3

Come on! Keep this trend you silly forecast models! I chose the 7th for the first inch of snow! (I may not be on the money, but if this pans out, 4 days close!)

Admitted, NAM is the only model hinting at this thing giving us any substantial snow.

  • sedsinkc

GFS shows perhaps a few snowflakes as the rain ends Sunday evening, but that’s it. GFS does show nice rain around KC of around 1 to 1.5 inches.

  • f00dl3

If you combine the NAM’s cold and GFS’s QPF…

    • mowermike

      Seds,

Cosmic made a great point, not too many great QB’s coming out of USC…I’m not sold on him yet.

Moisture looks better and better each run…70′s to snow, this possibility has been on the models thinking for awhile…let’s just get the rain first.

      • AllDay

Where do the good QB’s come from? Can we only draft QB’s from a college that has consistently produced elite NFL QB’s. Thats slim pickins!! I’ll give USC one thing…they kept Cassel on the bench!! better smarts then the chiefs!

        -Nick

  • mukustink

Barkley is not considered a top pick for the NFL. We also must remember who is making the draft choices over at last Arrowhead Drive. The same idiots who have done jack squat with draft picks! It’s possible to find a QB at a smaller school but in order to do that you must gave a top line player personal dept and we don’t!
As has been sais already this is a week draft for QB’s in the draft. The Chiefs are a good 5-6 years away from being any good and that’s if they fire Pioli and the rest of the personal folks.

As far as the rain for Sunday let’s wait and see! How many times have we had the “sure” thing only to see it go east? Just the other day Mike was talking about the heavy rain forming east of KC now we were getting it all along. Interesting indeed.

  • Looking forward to a few snowflakes after a bunch of rain.

Chiefs do not have time to wait for a rookie quarterback to develop. If they hope to turn things around starting next season, they need to go after a veteran starting quarterback, either through free agency or a trade. Of course, since they will likely have the #1 pick in the draft, they can also go for a quarterback in the draft, but will need to be patient and allow that quarterback to develop over a couple of seasons serving back up to a good veteran quarterback. Chiefs would actually be better off using their top picks to go after some linemen and receivers. And of course, throw a lot more money out there to attract some quality players.

  • Theo

Chiefs will continue to suck for years. That is not a prediction. It is a fact. Haven’t wasted my money on those fools for decades. Won’t give a penny of my money to that organization ever again.

Fans here are fickle anyway. You actually went into this season thinking you were a contender! Wow! The team has no talent. They are at least 12 players away from being a good team.
