Warm today followed by a wintry mix overnight into Saturday

Good morning bloggers,

We are off to a sunny start, but clouds will continue increase into the afternoon.   The great news are that temperatures will be much warmer with highs in upper 50s.

Enjoy today’s temperatures because we are back to colder weather and a chance for a mixed bag of precipitation overnight into Saturday.

The Set Up: a cold front will move through this afternoon and colder air will sink in across the region.  There may be a few showers this evening.

Into early Saturday morning there will be snow, sleet across parts of the KC metro area, which may cause slick spots on.  This moisture will continue to move east and southeast.

During the middle of day, snow and sleet will be possible across I-70 and areas south, with rain across the southeast.  Rain totals will be 0.25 to 0.50 an inch across that region.

Warming Back Up:  Sunday’s temperatures will rebound nicely with highs in the lower 60s.  Monday will be even warmer with highs in the lower 70s.

REMINDER: Daylight Saving Time begins on Sunday 2 AM.  Set your clocks ahead one hour before you go to bed on Saturday night, or else you’ll be one hour late on Sunday morning!  This is also a great time to change the batteries in your smoke alarms.

Have a great Friday,

Thanks for the blog Michelle ! Sounds like we are in for a nice Friday ..it’s Friday, it’s Friday :) got that irritating song in my head :)

Where’s Gary ? Hmm….He was not in studio last night, but he was just now on Sports radio 810 with the Border Patrol. He said nothing about the weekend weather, but said 75 for Monday, then for Big 12 week a cool-down for Tues/Wed, then 50′s-60′s for Thurs/Fri.

The furry animal has a 30% chance of winter precip next wend/thurs

      • luvsno

Frustrating….The (two) 7 day forecast graphics on KSHB.com do not agree with each other., and neither one agree with what Gary said this morning on sports radio 810.

I wonder where they get the forecast used in the most accurate contest? This new website format isn’t very conducive to weather.

Go Royals! I’m hoping for at least a 1/2 an inch of wintry precipitation tonight.

  • stjoeattorney

Snow has passed us by. Cold rains later in the LRC and the temp ride will continue.

  • Drought Miser

NW+S has us slated for much below normal temperature readings in their long range cast for the end of March.

    Ummm Michelle,
Just for clarification are the above totals for precipitation amounts as to rain/sleet and or snow totals or are they just possible snow totals???
Thanks for the blog write up its a good one!!!

    • batman

Those are rain totals. It says so in the blog. I don’t believe there’s anything to worry about tonight or overnight. It’s not going to be a big deal. Put the plows and snowblowers away as they won’t be needed till next season. Snow is over!!! YAHOOOOO! Come on spring and hurry up and please arrive soon!!

  • Drought Miser

I don’t know about you all but looking forward to a storm total of .25 to.50 is getting old and now there is talk of an El Nino’ setting up this summer. Not good news for us, all be it great news for Southern California we just can’t seem to shake this almost certain ten year drought cycle ridiculous folks just nuts!! The stats don’t lie below normal, below normal etc.no matter how you slice it!!!

  • Dobber

I am getting sick of fear mongering over a drought. I would suggest changing your name. droughtmongerer, is appropriate I think. It gets a little old , heatmiser, droughtmiser, freezemiser….I mean come on now. I wonder if Tushchaser hasn’t been reincarnated on here somewhere?

    • HeatMiser

Hmmmm, settle down there Dobber or the Miser brothers may have to put you in a time out!

      • luvsno

Heat…looks like there is an imposter on the 2020 blog..calls hisself Heat Mlser..and no avatar picture

  • Emaw

Just looked at NWS temperature outlook and it has us near normal through March 21.

  • NoBeachHere

Tired of trying to post over at 2020. Still cant get through.

Wish we could bring that conversation over here. I like reading everyone’s(aside from a few)input.

  • luvsno

We might get some sneet or rizzle ! Snow, sleet, rain, drizzle all could be in the cards tonight/tomorrow. :) :)

  • kellyinkc

looks like the mice are at play on the other blog.

Gary caught the trolls and put a stop to it thank goodness.

Batman…hate to break it to you but, it is highly possible we could have atleast one more big snow event. Wishing it away won’t change the fact that in the month of March, if the cold air is there, it could produce some significant snow storms. Only good thing is they generally do not last long due to the fluctuating temps.

      • luvsno

We had a 9 inch snowfall on March 25 last year in KC.
Then in May the Royals had to cancel a game due to snow on the field :)
We have had such a COLD LRC this year, colder than last years, it would not surprise me one bit to get one more big snowstorm.

  • Emaw

With all due respect, we have not had a cold “LRC”, we’ve had a cold winter just like much of the nation. And Gary has stated many times in relation to his theory that every year is dfferent, so just because we had some late snows last year that doesn’t necessarily mean that will happen this year just because it’s been cold. It wouldn’t surprise me either if we had another snowstorm, and it also wouldn’t surprise me if we didnt see another flake until next winter.

    • luvsno

I know every year is different. And ai was going to say cold winter, but seems to me that the LRC pattern has been cold. Ok, it is the Polar Vortex causing the cold.
I just think that with the cold returning here and there for the foreseeable days/weeks ahead, that another snow would not be a surprise. Time will tell. What was a surprise was the snow in May 2013. Don’t know if that one was expected per last years’ LRC. Would like to ask Gary, because I am really trying to educate myself about the LRC.

Have a good weekend everyone !

  • Emaw

Like you I’m here because I want to learn more, that’s why I question things to the chagrin of some. You have a good weekend as well.

    • Drought Miser

Always wondered how to spell chagrin now I know. .. same thing happens to me I state the facts or at least to me I believe them to be truths and some people get upset nevertheless it rolls off me like water on a ducks back.
