Todays Weather: Trick or Treat?

Good morning bloggers,

Happy Halloween!  The weather today has some challenging forecasts and one of them is in Kansas City.  Could there be a few snowflakes later this afternoon? There is a weak storm system aloft moving across the southern Rocky Mountains. This will provide enough rising motion to produce areas of showers.  The air mass is very dry near the surface and the dew points are low.  This only increases the chance of a few snowflakes instead of rain drops in many areas.

This mornings radar:

There was a somewhat organized area of snow over western Kansas early this morning.  This is what we will be tracking all day long.

Kansas City Weather Time-Line:

  • Now through noon:  Increasing clouds. Temperatures warming up to near 40°.  Light winds.
  • Noon to 6 PM:  Becoming overcast with a few showers. The chance of measurable precipitation is 50%.  Rain or snow showers are possible and the temperature will be critical for what reaches the ground. Temperatures in the lower 40s but dropping into the 30s during the late afternoon or if any showers fall.
  • Trick or treating:  Maybe that brief shower this evening, which could be rain or snow.  Temperatures in the 30s with light winds

The above two maps show the HRRR at 3 PM and and 5 PM.  This model has these rain and snow showers making it all the way across most of the KC viewing area.  So, again, today is a rather interesting day near KC.

Let’s track this together and we will also be tracking the trick or treating on 41 Action News later today as well. Thank you for sharing in this weather experience featuring Weather2020 and the Action Weather Blog. Go over to Weather2020.com and join in the conversation if you would like to ask us any questions.
