Good evening,
Severe thunderstorms have affected the KC metro area this evening. Here is a radar image from 7:45 PM. Notice the line to the south, the thin line which is an outflow boundary moving north. What an interesting evening after another 100 degree day.
Thunderstorms are moving our way. I will update the blog after 6:30 PM. We are on 41 Action News now!
You can see the anvil, the top of a thunderstorm nortwest of Kansas City.
Gary

Cell back built into Perry KS after it had already passed by…gave us about 5 mins of marble+ size hail. Cooled off nicely now, down to about 82.
Ok, watching the radar makes me feel like I’m about to stand in front of a buffet after not being able to eat for a month. Can see the bright and dark greens; some yellow and orange, red and pinks. Can smell it..and then after the last few months – here’s to just getting up to the door as mgmt locks up for the night. It makes me afraid to watch it……
Come on baby let us have a taste of that sweet nectar!

Signs of changes!!
Still no rain in NW Lawrence & looks like we won’t get any. Wind kicked up to 20 mph as cell passed to the east. The rain may have clipped far eastern Lawrence. The 40% chance posted by the Topeka NWS was accurate.
Some gusty winds and now a nice downpour here in NW Olathe. YAAA HOOOO!!!
Just had a nice 55 MPH gust here in eastern Independence. Waiting on rain. Looks like a bow echo on radar.
fizzling out
Acurite wx station reporting 1.36 in. (Really?) 51 mph wind gust and down to 67 degrees 4 miles nw of liberty.
thunder in Raytown some rain, come on rain!
Interesting outflow from the southern storm headed into the storm moving through the area
.25 in north Olathe, kinda like kissin your sister. . . Looks there’s more rain east of state line than west, hmmmmm.
G-man: VERY happy to report 0.52″ here in west Lenexa!
Should womans beach volleyball be rated pg-13?
Womens volleyball should be rated A+
Personally I prefer women’s ice skating
Ed, u dirty ole man!!! That is rather fun to watch. Lot of close calls if u know what I mean.
.33 inches NW side of Liberty.
Craig,
where are you in western Lenexa, that’s generally defined as west of 435. 1/3″ here at 87th and woodland. I’ll take it, we’ve been missed so many times. this was our best rain of the summer.
waiting for frigate to post rain totals for GV!
Totally frustrating. Rained all around us in Gardner. All we got was a lot of wind and lost power for over an hour.
Damn. It concerns me that mower is showing .33 while I show 1.54! Can anyone closer to my local confirm similar totals? Hope the wx station is working ok.
Stl78, I’m just NW of I35, near shoal creek golf. Looking at radar estimates, your location amount matches up. I just missed the core of the storm. You where in the gut of it.
Power is out in a large section of Liberty. Most of the 152 and 291 cooridors are dark including traffic signals. Quite the mess here. Looked like a Haboob here as the winds were that intense! Maybe .1″ of rain as storm collapsed. Bummer!
I will confirm this. I was in Liberty tonight near 291 and 152 and the winds knocked the power out to this area. Came home to KC North a little while ago, power on here, only 0.19 inches of rain from this system.
Got a whopping .25″ in Harrisonville. Looking forward to a few cooler days.
Awesome! Thanks mower.
lots of wind and lightning, nearly no rain; not enough to wet the whistle of the rain gauge – Shawnee – 435 & SM Pkwy
0.72″ just west of Bonner Springs… quite a show of wind, rain and then amazing looking clouds…
Garden City/Creighton .70″ This is only the third storm this summer over .10.
.22 of a inch in La Cygne. Wish it was more.
Here in Drexel……..drum roll………… 0.05 in
Rained here in Cameron this morning and this evening. Seen a total of .40″ for the day. That has double the total since June 1st…WoW. check out

Mikey stay off the blog, you have bills to pay. Cripple creek would like you to pay on time or even at all. I know last week your guys were cut off cause of not paying. Yeah thats right we all know you dont pay your bills. Cant wait to see you holding a sign saying will work for food!
storm00 – What does that have to do with ANYTHING? Cheap shot I guess? Not necessary on a weather blog.
A little after 7pm Kearney had VERY strong winds and rain, but I don’t have a gage so I don’t know how much rain actually fell. The wind blew hard enough that it was moving my windows though. Had the wind not blown so hard it would have been a nice thunderstorm for the evening.
