Saturday Morning T-Storms

Good morning bloggers,

Does anyone remember March 27th?  That is the day Trenton and northern Missouri had 3 tornadoes with some damage, but no injuries. This set-up on Sunday has similarities to the timing of that day, but more than that it has much more energy to be released. So, we have concerns for Sunday across parts of our viewing area.

Dog Clouds

Thunderstorms have developed and are moving into the KC metro area this morning.  Let us know what you experience.  We are currently analyzing the set-up for Sunday.  You can go to the Weather2020.com blog for more right now on how this storm fits the LRC and what we are expecting:  Weather2020 Blog

Have a great morning!

Typical Spring Thunderstorms in La Cygne. Thunder with some lightening. Light showers to sprinkles.

  • justinek84

We are participating in a Wedding in Grandview Mo today not till 6pm but were hoping to decorate outdoors this morning at 8am. What time will the rain have moved through?

  • Skylar

Starting to get some thunder and sprinkles by Johnson County Executive

  • Craig

G-man: Heavy rain with just a little bit of pea-sized hail in W Lenexa.

  • Dobber

    gotta love morning thunderstorms

  • calikufan

So the NAM run says we get strong instability tomorrow….if this plays out, we will get significant severe weather with any storms that move through…the mode is unclear. But everyone should, regardless, double check their weather safety plan today. It really doesn’t take that much effort to do. Just do it, man!

  • sedsinkc

Light shower with a few rumbles of thunder in KC North. That’s all.

  • Drought Miser

Drought Miser reporting live from Leawood Ks dark ominous clouds rolled in about an hour ago with frequently lighting and thunder and brief heavy rain I cannot confirm any hail at this local

Nice cell through extreme northern Vernon county…..probably .5-.75″ this is shaping up be a nice wet pattern the past couple days plus tomorrow. if wecanjust avoid any damaging storms tomorrow we will be in good shape, TWC has increased their torcon for our region to 5 which makes me a little nervous

  • stl78

I LOVE the pic sed!..im hoping these rain chances are a sign of things to come.

Picked up a nice .23 in this morning’s T-shower SW Grain Valley, MO.

Which parts of the viewing area are you concerned about? Why do I have the strangest feeling that this whole severe weather threat is going to go “poof” and get washed out by the storms tomorrow morning?

    • Farmgirl

These vague statements are so annoying! Basically tells us nothing. I know severe weather is in the forecast, how about telling where the worst might be?

      • batman

If they had a clue they would tell us but they don’t so as usual it’s a “nowcast” situation.

  • Hume-Dude

arklatex is biggest bullseye……..weather channel just specially said KC has been upgraded to 6 Torcon…..I still don’t see all the ingredients here if morning storms stabilize the area

  • AW

If T-storms come at 12PM, they would need to decrease it to just 2. I, personally, don’t see the ingredients here. They took down Leavenworth’s “Potential for severe weather” sign.

  • AW

Also changed Sunday from “80% of T-storms: Potential for Severe Weather” to “60% chance of scattered T-storms/wind” SPC took down Today’s 30% chance of Severe T-storms out west and changed it to just 15% chance. Radar and Future radar show no T-storms ANYWHERE in the middle plains between now and 9:00PM. Is it just me, or is this what we call “bad forecasting”?

  • AW

Southern Arkansas Northern Louisiana best place for chasers. Tor Con between 5-7 in those places. Weather.com says no rain for Leavenworth even though we got at least a quarter of an inch.

  • Henley

Anything that gets hyped up will fizzle in to nothing more than a rain shower that wouldn’t even stop a little league baseball game.

  • Drought Miser

Ummm Folk’s I think the reasoning behind these higher torcon numbers is the amount of spinning going on with this tightly wrapped low pressure that currently is spinning it’s way across the four corners if we have any type of sheer, winds from the south whilst winds from the west and northwest push in with the dry line it will not take a whole bunch of daytime heating to start the atmospheric conditions favorable for storms to start a spinning !!

  • Drought Miser

Oh and storms beginning to fire near Enid Oklahoma in last radar sweeps

  • Pete Capone

Torcon, shmorecon. TWC is as alarmist and pro global warming as they come. As with any other channel, they want ratings to drive advertising dollars. TORCON? Naming winter storms? It’s all hype.

  • Emaw

And cold blast, shmold blast. Since when are a couple days with highs in the 50’s in spring time considered a “cold blast”? Below average, yes, earth shattering news, no.

  • mgsports

http://www.spc.noaa.gov/products/outlook/day2probotlk_1730_any.gif we are in 30 percent and close to Moderate Risk and 70 percent chance of a seeing a Tornado in Western MO Tomorrow.

  • Jeff in St. Joe

    Update time?

  • Jeff in St. Joe

Never mind. I just found out Fox 4 has a weather blog, and it’s 10x more detailed.

  • sedsinkc

Today is the 23rd anniversary of the Andover, KS F5 tornado that also hit McConnell Air Force Base near Wichita. “http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LkxRaX62Hkk”

  • batman

Great Avatar Seds! Looks like the Blues are going to live up tp their name AGAIN! Cards are not playing well either.

Why have an update. It will all be south. Will you hide in the basement all day if they update it to a moderate risk? I know I won’t. I’ll go about my life and be aware that’s all. It’s weather not a nuclear bomb.

  • Hume-Dude

I am not liking the latest power cast. Looks like one tiny band of storms tomorrow PM . Probably a couple scattered severe t storms, moving very quickly and not producing widespread beneficial rainfall,. Once again areas to east looking for 3-5″, huge rain out Mississippi valley what else is new.

  • Hume-Dude

BTW…where’s the royals fans here? All these cardinal fans piping up and they are 250 miles away! Ace Ventura was nasty last night and I hope we have him locked up for a long time!!

  • Hume-Dude

This is going to be a dud here in KC. dry line zooms through to quickly before cap allows us to destabilize. so much hype for nothing, if we are lucky we will get morning storms , don’t count on the afternoon producing anything east of US -49 , storms moving 40 mph so don’t expect much rain either, I hate these types of storms. get hyped all week for Sunday and the biggest rain I will get was probably this morning with the little round they didn’t pay any attention to, figures

  • mgsports

I think we will have bad Storms in the Afternoon.
