Improving Afternoon Weather

Good Thursday morning bloggers,

Well, we got hit again last night, .25-“-1″.  We broke the ice earlier in the week when the city received 1″-3″ of rain.  Now, we seem to be more in the path.  There are more thunderstorm chances late Saturday into Sunday morning and Sunday night.  We will have more on this the next few days.

As far as today, the MCS is weakening, but the disturbances responsible for the large rain and thunderstorm cluster are still moving through.  It will take until noon to get the rain out of here.  Most of the rain will be light to moderate.

The afternoon weather will become rather nice with increasing sunshine and temperatures warming to the 70s with a light wind.  Friday will be fantastic with sunshine, light winds and highs near 80!

Have a great day!

Today Leavenworth got .8 inches of rain so far. This month Leavenworth got 4.6 inches (not counting today) and last month Leavenworth only got 2.04 inches. US Drought Monitor actually shows some change, the drought starting to reverse…

Strong storms on Saturday and Sunday, possibly severe…

40% chance of a watch being set up over New Orleans and Houston.

another inch in western Lenexa, we’ve had around 8″ in 12 days.
The drought monitor still hasn’t totally cleared us yet. We’re above average for the year now, but obviously KCI is not.

  • j-ox

    .55″ in NW Lawrence.

  • Hockeynut69

1.18″ just west of Liberty. .4″ higher than my prediction so I blew that one. Could use some drying for a few days.

  • Drought Miser

Right at one inch here in Merriam Ks

Everyone got some good rain finally. This should also quell Robyn, Ed, Batman, Sam Hill, etc. with his defeatest drought, hot horrible weather forecast he gives about every 2 days. Looks like Mower Mike will be spot on on his forecast for the spring. We have definitely turned the dry weather page.

well Chuck…..we need 37.65 more inches to make up for the “drought Deficit” according to the drought mongers on here. Anti-cyclones, droughts, heat-waves, cactie

Mike was right this go around looking forward to his final totals!!

Looks like next week we could have some severe stuff in the works around Tuesday thru Thursday timeframe. The CAPE values are forecasting instability in the region. Could get interesting.

1.18″ this morning, bringing the June total to date to 6.89 inches in KC North.

  • Deb

9.35″ and counting => 1.25″ from this morning + 8.1″ since June 1 in north Raymore.
Not sure we will ever be able to mow the yard again.
It is just squish, squish, squish out there . . . and more to come?
Why does it always seem to be feast or famine?

Rainfall totals from my 10 gauges that I have around the KC area. I have all of these set-up to record rainfall for my clients in their areas.

I have been out of town and very busy since I have returned, so I will just give you the monthly totals instead of each rain event.

1-29 and Barry Road: (Platte county) 6.12
152 and Indiana: (western Clay county) 7.22
    435 and 96th street: (Clay county) 6.89
    NKC(1 mile north of Downtown(S. Clay) 6.93
    I35 and 95th street(Johnson county KS.)7.36
    I70 and 27th street(Jackson county Mo.)6.12
    1-70 and Little Blue Parkway)(Independence)7.06
119th and Roe (Leawood KS. (Johnson county KS) 6.66
    I35 and the Holt exit(Clinton county) 5.97
    69HWY and 135th(Overland Park) 7.43

We’re clearly above average for the month at all locations and it’s only June 12th. We really need some dry time as my crews are running slow right now. My money train has stalled….

Royals have a 7-game road trip with 3 at the White Sox and 4 at Detroit. This is a very important run for them and following this, they come home for 12 games. They’re 2 games out of first, so, they need to split this road trip or come as close to .500 as they can.

    Cardinals stink!!

  • Emaw

Another 1.25″ in north Olathe, we’re saturated.
Mike I agree they’ve gotta find a way to at least go 3-3 on this trip, 4-2 would be ideal. The central is wide open baby!

Received a good .57 of an inch today here in East Lawrence.

    ummmm Folk’s,
I just looked up some of next weeks model runs… we could be talking flood zones instead of a drought monitor report we now need a flood watch for every event there is simply no more room for rain it’s all runoff now!!!

  • Hume-Dude

Amazing, Royals hit a couple HR’s other night, and we WIN! ITs almost like if you score runs you win baseball games?!? Last night was great Defense, if we can score runs I am not worried about how we will do. Solid team, just need to score!
I was actually HAPPY to get missed this morning by brunt of activity, needed some dry time before next week’s rains come. looking like I won’t get much hay until LATE June if not July, crazy pattern here with Drought, Drought, Drought, then…wait for it…FLOOD!

  • goodlifegardens

Garden City/Creighton–1.9″—When it came it really came fast. Lowland flooding along “B” between Creighton and Archie.

  • Drought Miser

Hopefully someone on here or one of the 41 news team can look back over the past couple of drought year’s and see if we ever had a wetter two week period, I’m thinking no way especially if next week verifies. ..
