Off to a late start and with Kansas City Live and 41 Action News Midday fast approaching, I will keep this short. I apologize but other than hot & dry conditions there is a whole lot to talk about. Today could be the hottest day of the Summer or at least one of the two hottest days. On July 9th it was 98° Add in the humidity and it could feel like 105-degrees. So, A Heat Advisory has been issued.
The Advisory includes all of the metro KC counties but not Miami, Franklin, Linn, Anderson or Osage County on the Kansas side. And, Bates county on the Missouri side has been omitted. Still, in these areas the heat index for a short time could top 100-degrees this afternoon, so be careful.
This morning, I am reading an article about jet streams and climate change. It comes to me from climatenexus.org. One of the points the article makes is that global warming has caused the “Jet Stream” to weaken. Here is a quote from the article.
“Weakening Jet Streams tend to have larger north-south waves. When these waves get larger, they move more slowly from west to east, which can cause weather systems to move more slowly and even becomes stuck in place. This in turn increases the likelihood of disasters caused by persistent weather conditions, including droughts, heat waves, floods, long cold spells and heavy snows”.
I try and stay very objective when it comes to the climate change topic. As of this writing, I have not read the whole article but I thought, so far, the authors make some valid arguments. Have a great weekend, try to stay cool.
