Good evening bloggers,
The National Weather Service has issued an Excessive Heat Warning for the KC metro and surrounding areas. This is likely going to be a dangerous and prolonged heat wave that will have increasing effects on our community. The drought is also worsening. I just looked at the new data and there are some weak fronts that try to get to near KC in the next 16 days, but the fall apart before moving through. Here is the updated 7 day forecast that I am showing tonight on 41 Action News:
We will go over more details in the morning as the heat wave begins on Wednesday. Have a great evening.
Gary

Everything seems to be 45 days ahead of schedule. I sure didn’t like your 7 day forecast! Water bill will be ugh I don’t even want to think about it.
Yes, water bills will be high. (Muk) Hey, I left you a comment on yesterday’s blog, go back and read. Please explain: Thanks.
Stock up on green paint Mikey you’re going to need it.
I wish i was in the pacific northweat in the mountains and enjoy the cooler air up there, this talk about the long heat wave and increasing drought risk is sickening everybody including me around kansas ciry. Anybody want to come with me and enjoy cooler air.
Brad
Where is northweat? How’s the met degree coming?
Brad,
I can top you location wise.. I am currently in the Pacific Northwest, no wishing for me. It was so much cooler here than back home! I believe the high here in Medford, OR was around 70 degrees.
Bring on fall. This is horrible. Hate, hate, hate this weather!!!
1936, 1954, 1980…2012?
Can anyone recommend a better weather app for the iPhone besides the NOAA Radio one? Although I appreciate getting alerts–especially for severe storms and tornadoes–I do NOT appreciate getting alerts at 3 or 4 a.m. about excessive heat the next day. And there is no way to set this one so that some alerts don’t make noise. I’d rather not uninstall and reinstall again next severe weather season (I might forget!) Again, I want it to audibly alert me if it’s a tornado watch/warning or whatever, no matter what time it is, but I’d prefer not to get woken up in the wee hours with a warning about the next day’s heat.
My native fall-blooming plants are already blooming! This includes the aster which shouldn’t be blooming until late September. This is absolutely crazy. I was worrying about not having any blooms come fall, but now I’m thinking that may not be the problem. With this drought I’m just hoping my plants survive. I’m watering now, which I usually do only once a year (this is my second time already this year) and worrying that water rationing is in our future this summer.
Just saw your last post Tush, thanks….we’ll be safe. Chicken….loved your comment, thank you. So completely true. You all stay cool out there and say prayers for Boulder. Big fire now just above the city and they are starting evacuations west of the city.
Gary, what kind of similarities can you draw between the heat wave of 1980 and this year. I was looking at weathersparks today and it looks as if we had several days in the 100′s during june also of that year. It also appeared that we had a rather mild winter preceding that summer too.
I will begin working on some comparison’s, but this weather pattern is completely unique.
I have a feeling this mower mike is all bark and no bite after his last few comments
Gary,
While I’m concerned about what’s going on here, I’m even more concerned about the wildfires out west in CO and elsewhere. Do you see any sign they’ll be getting needed rain to help put out these fires?? I have lots of friends and some distant family affected.
Keep up the good work!
If everything 45 days ahead of schedule, maybe fall will be early then
And that would put Dec 21st when? J/K. Way to put a positive spin on things and I sure hope you are right but I wouldn’t bet on it.
