Good evening bloggers,
Two bands of rain have formed around the main upper level disturbance. The first band just move into north Kansas City, and as you can see below, the second band is heavier and moving right towards us. This is great news for the frustrated weather enthusiasts from earlier today. This band will get us into our forecast range for this storm system. Let’s track this in on our weathercasts at 5 and 6 PM tonight. Here is ESP radar from 4:30 PM:
We at least did get this second band of rain this evening. Now, we look ahead to a big warm-up tomorrow and a strong cold front Saturday. It does not look like the snow will sneak into our viewing area.
Have a great night. We will go over the details on 41 Action News at 10 PM.

0.19 inches as of this writing in KC North. Looking like 0.3 or even 0.4 inches might be doable from this system before it ends.
.28 4 miles nw of liberty!?!? Find that hard to believe.
How much additional rain can I expect out of this next round? Got about .19 so far
Really nice rain here in south OP – 119th/Antioch and has been raining for a while now with drizzle all afternoon.
There is a huge dry slot being formed south of KC.
Sorry if I posted the same thing twice!
I’ll try again. Anybody in north Olathe have a rain total so far? I think my gauge is shot.
Rain looks about done here in KC North. Total is 0.30 inches.
“We at least did get this second band of rain this evening” WHAT RAIN!!!
.35. 4 miles nw of liberty
Something tells me if this was snow there would be many more totals being posted here tonight, inflated as they may be. Awesome, I love it when it rains in January!
Not saying I I believe that total emaw. Just reporting what the acurite wx station is showing!
Stl78..
I had .28 inches on the NW side of Liberty. That isn’t inflated, it is accurate.
2.13 inches of rain and melted down snow since Dec.14th
The extent to how quickly visibilities have dropped is pretty impressive. Two hours ago it was a couple miles and raining, now it’s just a few feet.
thx mower
Looks like my corner of SW Lawrence will finish off with a much appreciated .58″.
You guys misunderstood, my bad, I absolutely believe your rainfall totals. I’m just saying that snowfall totals always seem to be a bit inflated.
Any new information on the snow, this weekend, next week?just curious
Blogger rain totals don’t jibe with radar estimates. Radar estimates show .15 and less throughout metro.
.09 inches at blue Valley West.
NO SNOW THIS WEEKEND. It’s been said several times now.
I plow in Clinton mo theo as well as the Kc metro. Will I need the plows in Clinton?
This is the only thing I could find, Clinton has a better chance than KC..I’m putting my plow in a big hole in the back yard!

Unless it is less sheared there will be no snow in our viewing area at all. But, it still only would take a slight change. The latest GFS does have it closer, let’s see how it looks in the morning.

Rainfall estimates are estimates and if the radar isn’t calibrated correctly they can either go way over or under. Theyve been a bit too low since Issac hit back at the end of summer.
Theo,
I never have found the radar estimates accurate, I just look at them for fun. The NWS page under observations shows .50 inches in Olathe and .25 inches at KCI and so forth. More then the under .10 you predcited yesterday morning. Also, you said we wouldn’t fall in the top 5 for warmest years, we did. # 3(nothing to shout about though)
One last thing, it’s amazing how you have the lowest totals every storm. (snow and rain) I guess you’re right, nobody else here knows how to measure precip.totals.
Good luck to your Packers this weekend!!
Emaw,
Snow is much more rare in KC therefore it’s more fun to talk about, however totals do seem to be inflated at times. Which does not make sense, many people seem quick to say they either got no rain, or a foot of snow.
That being said, I could use a rain gauge as u do not have one
.55″ in NW Olathe.
LOL..agreed
Kole , rain has been pretty rare as well
Theo, it rained pretty steady here in Olathe for a while, it wouldn’t surprise me if we got .25 or so but I don’t know because my gauge bit the big one.
Rain IS hard to come by right now
.38 received here in western Wyandotte County. Not much but better then nothing for sure.
