Good Evening Bloggers!
To the right is a look at the radar as of 8:25 this evening. An isolated t-storm had produced heavy rain and dropped temps in St. Jo. Also reports of dime/penny size hail.
The cluster of severe t-storms NW of Topeka had been producing 65mph winds and small hail. You can see the “bow’ shape to this storm (in dark red) and the gust front shown by the faint green line south of Manhattan.
St. Joseph cell has just gone severe and will likely slowly push east toward Cameron. Complex of t-storms northwest of Topeka should be able to skim Topeka, but current thinking is any chance for t-storms for KC is iffy at best late this evening. Will watch, especially around KCI and update at 10.

The high winds are what I hate about these summer MCS’s that develop on the periphery of heat waves. We lost power twice last summer for 2+ days each time due to such systems. There is definitely some spin evident in the radar returns of this developing MCS, which makes me hopeful there is enough instability with the system to keep it going until it gets to KC.
If these storms don’t hit every one of us dead-on, it is unimaginable cruelty at this point. The drought is going to be devastating.
almost 1/2 inch in st jo. still raining
This little MCS fits perfectly with the LRC, don’t you agree George?

I wished the storms in central ks, we’re over us. Widespread rain and storms. Hope the storms near Topeka hold up??!!!
As soon as any line of rain/storms hits the Johnson County line they will just fall apart. I am still hoping though!
Looks like some strengthening just west of Leavenworth. Anyone out that way care to comment?
Tons of lightning and rain here in Leavenworth. We had some pea size hail and about 45 mile per hour wind gusts. A real good soaking here.
Looks like the kansas farmers are fairing well tonight!! no drought buster but better then .00
Another miss for most of us in the metro. Its just cruel at this point.
Some of my family members arrived last evening from western Kansas to spend the holiday with us here in Lee’s Summit. Many of them mentioned how much greener it is here, compared to the western part of Kansas. Our family farm is located in the part of Kansas that is experiencing “extreme” drought. By all indications, the drought will worsen. The family was surprised that the metro area did not receive any rain at all last evening, even though they drove through a lot of thunder and lightning.
