Good morning bloggers,
The Chiefs are on NBC tonight. We are the local station that got the rights to show the Chiefs/Eagles game since it is on the NFL Network. The weather in Philadelphia will be dry and excellent for football. Can you imagine if the game was here in KC tonight. I would be so stressed out as thunderstorms are likely. The way the NFL delays games for a lightning strike 10 miles away we would likely have had delays. But, we don’t have to worry about that aspect as the game isn’t here tonight and the Royals, who won last night are off today as well.
- Philadelphia Forecast: Perfect football weather with a clear sky and light winds, maybe calm conditions. Kickoff temperature: 69°
- Kansas City Forecast: Hot and humid. High: 90°. Rain and thunderstorms will be developing later today with a 100% chance tonight.
Let’s take a look at the set-up:
There is a cold front moving southeast across northwest Kansas and Nebraska. This front will move through tonight with a very good chance of heavy thunderstorms. It will be interesting to our weather team as we have seen this type of front many times during the past years’s weather pattern. The new pattern may be at it’s earliest stage of development, but the old pattern has still been dominating the weather pattern recently. And, with this front caught in the transition I will be paying close attention to see where the thunderstorms form this afternoon and evening. In the past year most of the thunderstorms have formed in the cooler air northwest of the cold fronts as upper level energy lags behind the front. Regardless of how the thunderstorms form and respond to the weather pattern tonight, the timing seems good for our area to be near the heaviest thunderstorms. Right now we are forecasting anywhere from 0.25″ to 2.25″ depending on whether you get underneath one or two of the heavier thunderstorms or not.
- Chance of rain: 100%
- Chance of 1″ of rain or more: 40%
- Chance of under 1″ of rain: 60%
We will update the blog after thunderstorms begin forming later today. Go Chiefs tonight. Can they get to 3-0. Have a great day and thank you for spending a few minutes of your day reading the Action Weather Blog. We will have updates on 41 Action News today and tonight. 41 Action News will have a one hour pre-game show at 6 PM, and then a one hour post-game show after the game including a weather forecast as we track the thunderstorms.
