Good morning bloggers, It’s Friday!
It is 59° at 7 AM this morning as I am writing up today’s blog entry. Fall begins in six weeks and the Chiefs begin tonight, well their first preseason game is tonight at Arrowhead Stadium.
July & August 2012 (the last 40 days)
- Days under 90°: 2 (Today will be the third time we have been under 90° for a high)
- Days 90° or higher: 38
- Days 100° or higher: 16 (20 for the entire summer, including 4 near the end of June)
- We have had a high temperature under 90 degrees only twice since June 24th (July 8th when it was 87°, and August 9th when it was 85° yesterday)
Today will be below 90° making it the second day in a row below 90°. This will be the first two consecutive days below 90° since June 21st-June 23rd. Saturday will make it three in a row and then Sunday may surge in to the 90s ahead of the next cold front. KCI Airport has had 1.11″ of rain during these 40 days which is 24% of the average rainfall for this time frame.
Have a great day! We will go in-depth on our weather-casts tonight on 41 Action News. Tonight is my last late night newscast as the Olympics will be finishing up this weekend. I am ready to get that extra hour of sleep next week.
Gary

It is currently 67 degree in OP and clear sky. What a beautiful day to end the week day!
I wish we would concentrate a little more on rain chances both short term and long term, high/low temperatures are meaningless, well I suppose if you work outside they are important.
I agree Henley…I see the NWS has rain chances for Sunday and then Tuesday night through Thursday. When was the last time KC had multiple day rain chances??? Gary…what are your thoughts on this happening???
Jeff,
The Sunday chance isn’t great, but the heights aloft drop a bit next week and hopefully we can see some additional chances. I just wouldn’t count on much yet.
Gary
Gary. As stated yesterday blog, I was wondering if you are going to go over some of your thoughts on El nino in today’s blog.
I was hoping to read about this as well.
Yeah i was looking forward to some of garys thoughts that he said he was going to go over in thursday afternoon’s blog entry. Are you putting it off till another day gary just cirious.
Brad
Wow, dude, no offense…please take this as constructive…but if you are really in college, you should focus on some beginning grammar/spelling classes. They really like good grammar and spelling in the real world.
Precipitation rankings during ENSO events has us wet(KS side) to very wet (MO side) for the months of September-November. Fingers crossed! Like to hear your thoughts Gary.
Stans,
No offence taken, i took some spelling grammer classes and passed them all so please just stay off my case as i am heading into my junior year as a jayhawk i don’t like it when people do that. Thanks
Brad
Ok Brad we get the fact you’re going to be in 7th grade at Jayhawk middle school. Most people say they are going to be in 7th grade when in middle school not a junior. Thanks and your welcome.
What time Sunday are possible storms to arrive, and how severe? I am thinking of heading to the state fair in Sedalia? thanks?
Where’s the new forecast you promised to do at Noon after you looked at the new data?
He was busy working out or taking pictures of his dogs give him a break. He deserves some down time.
Your droght graphic is wrong. Exceptional drought goes through southern Johnson, KS and southern Jackson, MO. Why make your own incorrect graphic when NOAA/USDA makes one already with county lines? Yours shows exceptional drought too far south.

Saturday morning here in Sydney and I see that the heat has backed off. I thought the LRC said we were suppose to be in a major heat wave and making a run at 113 right about now? Just goes to show that making a forecast past 24 hours is useless and a crap shoot. No wonder Gary likes Vegas so much
.
100 degree heat is O V E R !
Ok muku, for the last and final 1,000th time i am not in middle school nor in 7th grade if i was i would be back in my hometown spingfield missouri. I am starting my junior year at ku in two weeks from monday. I am serious here and i want you to back off from picking on me so much because you don’t know what i got and what i do.
