103 today and next week looks hotter than this week!

Good evening bloggers,

It reached 103° at KCI Airport today.  New data is coming in. I am considering going above 108° next week, but after you guys went a bit nuts when I put that high of a number on the 7 day earlier in the week I am sticking with 108° for now. After analyzing the new data I may up that forecast. I am not sure yet.

HEAT WAVE #2 of 2012 has reached it’s sixth day. Tomorrow is the seventh day, and it will last into the end of next week, possibly longer.

I will go over the latest GFS model in just a few minutes after it comes in.  I am on the air right now…..

Gary

Gary, are you bored trying to find creative ways to report that it is just going to be dang hot and dry? I know I am tired of reading and hearing about. LOL!

I long for one of those tricky forecasts where you are unsure of rain amounts. :)

  • Hi Gary from Lori

    Hey Gary!
The high will be what the high will be. We’ll have to take it. Isn’t next week traditionally the hottest time of the year in this area?

Hi Gary, staff, and fellow bloggers,

I agree with Farm Girl. It must be difficult for you and the staff to continue with this “HEAT.”
I just returned from the family farm in Western Kansas. I will be returning to school soon, so I went home to take care of business. I authorized my family to begin selling some of our cattle. They are having a difficult time with the heat.
Hopefully, we can all make it through this unusual weather system.
    Take care and stay cool!

I am cutting down my flowers tomorrow …I can’t keep them looking good and I am sure the extreme heat will continue through most of August! Sigh…..

I notice that a line of thunderstorms forms in a line just south of KC and then moves south drenching many parts of southern missouri and kansas. What is the weather feature that is causing this? why don’t they seem to be forming right over us or just a few counties north and then moving south?

  • Gary, You,ve been pushed into a difficult situoation. How are you going to explaine your forecast. The LRC is a BUST. Signed ,Kevin

What is the obsession with 108 degrees? You had that number for this week as well, before backing off. Now, I see it listed for the high most of next week. Yes, I am cranky because of the heat!

  • The good news is that it will rain again and it will snow again. The bad news is that’s a long way off.

  • I looked at your updated 7-day forecast on your website, and I saw the big 110. Been since 1954 since that happened in KC, right?

When it comes to warm weather like this, people will be calling it hype if you’re 2 degrees too warm and it’s 108 instead of 110, but you still WILL certainly be accurate.

Nevertheless, a historic summer for sure!

    Gary,
I am getting scared. I know they are now saying that we might have another winter like last winter. If that is true wont we be set up for another summer with extreme heat and drought? Can we handle another summer of this? I cant sleep at night worrying about it and I am not a farmer.
